ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: FUMITO UEDA
Interview with the creative genius behind the hit video game “The Last Guardian.”
By creating games that deliver emotional impact, stunning artistic design, and extend far beyond mere entertainment, Fumito Ueda has greatly influenced the history of video games. Tokyo-based LightWave reseller D-Storm interviewed Fumito Ueda—director and lead designer of the video games masterpiece Ico (2001), Shadow of the Colossus (2005), and The Last Guardian (2016)—to learn more about his creative inspirations and how he has used LightWave 3D extensively in his video game pipeline throughout his amazing career history. From concept to cover, digital artist Graham Hutchings uses LightWave 3D to create revolutionary images for many of today's popular magazines. His most recent work consists of several beautiful illustrations for the February 2017 edition of the popular GQ Magazine. Mostly done in 2 days from sketch, concepts to rendering, these impressive images were entirely created with LightWave 3D. Black Holes @ Sundance Film Festival 2017
This year's edition of the Sundance Film Festival ended last night and Black Holes—a 12 minutes’ 3D animated short created in LightWave 3D—was finally revealed to public during the 10-day festival. According to the independent filmmaking news IndieWire, Black Holes was one of the 10 Must-See shorts at this year’s festival. Saudi Bahrain Bridge Project
Brahain-based Muharraqi Studios impresses us once again with this great example of 3D animation created for the famous King Fahd Causeway bridges. Connecting Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, these series of bridges and causeways were built to improve the links and bonds between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Working on a traffic simulation to improve the efficiency of controls and vehicles maneuverability, the team used the power of LightWave to create this compelling 6-minute animation which includes an amazing environment, realistic cars/trucks’ rigs, and traffic flow simulation using Flocking.

Tartarus, a new text-based game adventure
Developed using LightWave 3D and Unreal Engine 4, Tartarus is a new FPS action/adventure game set in 2230 in a dark sci-fi universe. Targeted for PC & MAC, this first-person adventure with text-based elements is expected to be released on Steam in 2017. Turkish-based company Abyss GameWorks discussed the production of their new adventure game on the online game magazine 80 Level.
