Welcome to our second video sampler for the imminent LightWave 3D® 2018! In this edition we follow up on Image Sampler 2 with a couple of videos on the new lighting system from developer Antti Järvelä of the LW3DG development team. These are informal introductions to the new lighting system.
First up, a side-by-side comparison of the differences in volumetric lighting in LightWave™ 2015.3 and LightWave™ 2018. Here you will note that better render quality with faster rendering times is the hallmark of the new system – in Antti’s example a similar render and quality took 2.4 seconds in LightWave 2015 and .01 seconds in LightWave 2018. The improvements don’t stop there, however:
Next up, a wider ranging overview showing some of the new capabilities, including Visible to Camera, Image Projection in any light type, and his quick Spotlight Thruster volumetric light example. Advanced Lighting And Volumetric Lights In LightWave 2018:
Q & A Updates
Q: Is it possible to get volumetric reflections in LightWave 2018?
Antti: Yes, everything is fully raytraced.
