Welcome back to Eyecandy Central! For this entry we have some sample renders and comments from Antti Järvelä of the LW3DG development team.
Our first three items will be of interest for lighting specialists and developers interested in the SDK for lights.
Here are some things you could not do in LightWave 3D® 2015 and before:
…and more. The API now allows any 3rd party to create new lights with full volumetric support.
There are improvements in the LightWave™ lighting system that should prove useful for Architecture-Visualization rendering. The new portal light option in the Area light and NGON light is going to help you a lot with arch-viz; portals provide no illumination themselves, but rather concentrate light through openings. Used as a doorway or as windows, they bring in outside lighting to illuminate interiors.
Also the new GI also reacts to surface properties correctly. Previously GI only used a simple Lambertian evaluation internally, but since I wrote the new shading system to be bi-directional, I can now sample the BRDF from the GI engine.
If you have questions about the images and videos we share in a LightWave 3D 2018 blog entry, just drop your questions into the forum thread here:
We will answer in the forum and also update the blog entry with the information.
